#Claritycares Workforce Development Workshop With GMHC

The Clarity team is an active crew, involved with a variety organizations and activities throughout the city. I have been volunteering with GMHC (Gay Men’s Health Crisis) for the past year with their Buddy Program, a match program with long term HIV/AIDS survivors to provide support and socialization, one of the many resources GMHC provides to their clients. When it came up that I’m a recruiter, I was asked about potentially partnering with GMHC’s Workforce Development team for a day of resume review and mock interviewing. Excited about getting my Clarity teammates involved, I took this to the group and we set up the #claritycares workshop!

The day kicked off with an overview of GMHC, officially established in New York in 1982 and their mission, to end the AIDS epidemic and uplift the lives of all affected.

Next, we met with a small group of very talented GMHC clients who are targeting to return to the workforce; all with extremely relevant experience to bring to their searches. We spent the first part of the morning reviewing and reformatting resumes to best highlight the skill sets most applicable to each client’s respective career goals. The second half, we mixed it up and ran through mock interviews. We provided constructive feedback and encouragement to take into real life interview settings.

We wrapped up over lunch with the caseworkers in Workforce Development, sharing feedback and getting to know a little more about their program and the specific resources they provide.

It was a truly rewarding day partnering up with GMHC, sharing stories, and giving back to an organization that does such fantastic work in our community.
