The Bureau of Labor Statistics released a much stronger than anticipated September jobs report last week. The economy added 248,000 new jobs bringing the unemployment down to 5.9%, the lowest since July 2008. Business services, construction, and health care were some of the areas that saw the strongest growth. September has typically fallen below expected job numbers so economists are encouraged by the positive growth. In the five years since the recession ended in June 2009, the economy has seen more than 500,000 full-time jobs replaced by 800,000 part-time positions, the highest increase in part-time employment since 1993.
